DSQM is a CNR spin-off pioneering superconducting electronics to overcome power and performance bottlenecks in HPC, AI, and quantum computing. Our platform spans device design, nanofabrication, and cryogenic measurement, including an energy-efficient superconducting switch that enables scalable quantum architectures. We partner with industry and research labs to co-develop next-generation, high-performance technologies.
Proposed project
We aim to co-develop a cutting-edge nanofabrication process for superconducting devices that unite quantum and classical systems. The program integrates superconductors with epitaxial semiconductor platforms to build hybrid circuits at the nanoscale. We seek a partner with proven capabilities in MBE—preferably InAs-based thin films—and advanced superconductor patterning for Josephson junctions and SQUIDs using ion-beam etching or direct-write lithography. The objective is a scalable, high-yield process for complex superconducting circuits, accelerating energy-efficient HPC and truly post-silicon computing.
Marine biotechnologies for sustainable aquaculture and coastal bioremediation
ISPRA is the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research. It coordinates the Regional Environmental Agencies with which constitutes the network of SNPA - National System for Environmental Protection, supports the Ministry for Ecological Transition, and collaborates with the European Environment Agency and international institutions. In Livorno the Section of Coastal Areas focuses on research regarding the marine-coastal ecological risk, plankton eco-toxicology and genomics, and aquaculture, with an active joint lab with Zhejiang Ocean University, with student and researcher exchanges.
Proposed project
We advance innovative biotechnological approaches leveraging marine biota, especially plankton-associated microbiota, with two main goals: sustainable aquaculture (selection/optimization of beneficial microbial consortia, improved resilience and production quality) and bioremediation of polluted coastal sediments and waters (targeted bio-stimulation/augmentation, functional monitoring). We seek academic and industry partners for co-development, field validation, and data/know-how exchange, aiming for a fast track to PoC in coastal pilot sites.
Physics-Informed Digital Twins and Edge Sensing for Adaptive, Human-Centric Manufacturing
CNR-STIIMA advances research, technology transfer, training, and strategic roadmapping to boost industrial innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability. We design smart systems, enabling technologies, new business models, products and processes that co-evolve with market and social needs, promoting the central role of people in industry. Our focus spans intelligent machines and components, robots, mechatronics, sensing, and data-driven methods to support new production paradigms across mature and advanced sectors (including healthcare and rehabilitation).
Proposed project
We develop collaborative machines and components that, together with operators, monitor and optimize quality, productivity, and environmental impact. The approach combines physics-informed machine learning for probabilistic, incrementally learned Digital Twins, mechatronic virtual prototyping, and edge sensors for process/machining monitoring, plus robust multi-objective optimization with preference modeling. Key challenges addressed: accuracy under data scarcity, uncertainty management, efficient calibration, and field-level proof of robustness in traditional industries.
AMF-Bacteria Biofertilizers for Low-Input Agriculture Across Diverse Climates
The National Research Council (CNR) is Italy’s largest public research body. Within its BioAgroFood Department (DISBA), the Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection (IPSP) advances knowledge, methods and technologies to protect crops from biotic/abiotic stresses. IPSP studies plant-beneficial microbe interactions, biodiversity, diagnostics and biological control, with two decades of expertise using arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) as inoculants to enhance growth and productivity.
Proposed project
We propose a joint R&D program to design and test soil biofertilizer inocula combining AMF and beneficial bacteria. Goals: (1) optimize AMF-bacteria consortia by crop and soil type; (2) assess effects on growth, nutrient uptake and yield in greenhouse and multi-site field trials; (3) reduce chemical fertilizer use for greener production. With a Chinese partner, we will validate performance from tropical to arid systems, exchange strains and know-how, and co-develop protocols, QA and data packages toward field-ready biofertilization suitable for wide adoption.
Tropical Agricultural Value Chains for the Future
The University of Florence (UNIFI) is a major Italian research university with a strong international profile. Its Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry spans agronomy and precision farming, environment and landscape (climate, pollution, land use), forestry (silviculture, biodiversity, engineering), and animal and food sciences.
Proposed project
TRAGR4FUTURE strengthens Master-level training in tropical agronomy by building a UNIFI-led alliance with leading Chinese institutions. The program co-develops blended teaching and applied exercises (lectures, seminars, discussion groups, adaptive research, and staff/student mobility), linking local genetic resources, cultural food heritage, and traditional practices with advanced approaches to sustainable land and water management. A distinctive element connects the “Made in Italy” quality model to tropical-origin products co-created with Chinese partners. We seek universities and research centers for co-development and pilot activities that translate academic knowledge into market-oriented, high-quality outputs for resilient, sustainable agri-food systems.
AI for XRF-Based Metal Provenance in Museum Collections
Founded in 1806, the University of Palermo serves 45,000+ students with 160 degree courses and 33 PhD programmes. Ranked fourth among major Italian universities (2024) and first in Southern Italy (2023/24), UNIPA manages a broad EU portfolio (Horizon Europe, H-2020, INTERREG and others) and fosters startups and spin-offs. The university hosts the ATEN Center, providing advanced materials-characterization facilities that support interdisciplinary research across archaeology, materials science and digital humanities.
Proposed project
We propose to extend our machine/deep learning methods for X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) metal analysis—validated on Roman coins and Greek/Punic arrowheads—to Chinese museum collections. The goal is a standard protocol for CH investigations and rapid, robust interpretation of chemical data to classify alloy families, infer provenance and chronology, and support collection digitization. Each object’s chemical “fingerprint” enables non-invasive heritage protection (movement/trafficking/theft alerts). A protected database will retain sensitive data while exposing task-specific answers to curators, researchers and security agencies.
Real-World Data & CRO services for Infectious Disease Preparedness
EuResist Network is an international non-profit (EEIG, founded 2008 by Karolinska Institute, Max Planck Society, University of Siena, InformaPRO, and University of Cologne) with 17 partners across Europe and beyond. We manage the world’s largest HIV genotype + clinical/virological database and coordinate EU- and industry-funded projects. The Group administrator, InformaPRO, operates as a CRO delivering clinical research services throughout Europe.
Proposed project
We seek partners for a multinational study on Post-Acute Infection Syndromes (PAIS) and PASC/Long COVID to quantify incidence, clinical trajectories, risk factors, immunogenicity, and candidate interventions, including comparative analyses versus PAIS after other ARIs. In parallel, we are developing AI for pandemic preparedness: novel data-to-insight pipelines (agentic-AI-ready transformations), tabular foundation and Bayesian models for rapid epidemiological characterization, causal AI for early treatment-effect evaluation, and genomic language models for mutation forecasting—built with public-health institutes, hospitals, practitioners, and patients. We also provide CRO services (regulatory, site/start-up, monitoring, reporting) for pharmacological and non-pharmacological studies in Europe.
End-to-End Small-Molecule CDMO with Integrated EU-US-China Supply
Flamma is a privately held, family-run CDMO (since 1950) specializing in small molecules. We operate FDA-inspected cGMP sites in Italy, a GMP plant in the USA, and a 100% owned GMP facility in Dalian, China, ensuring a stable, compliant supply chain for APIs, NCEs, RSMs, and key intermediates from early stage to commercial. Flamma has been recognized among Europe’s top CMOs and as a multi-year CDMO Leadership Award Top Performer.
Proposed project
We seek strategic partners to co-develop and launch small-molecule products across China, Europe, and the US, leveraging dual-region manufacturing and mirrored quality systems. Engagements can include China-based API production (CDE-compliant) or EU/US manufacturing (FDA-compliant), with tech transfer, process optimization/scale-up, DMF/CMC authoring, and regulatory pathway support. We propose a joint R&D team in China, integrated with our Italian group, to accelerate generics and NCEs, de-risk supply, and compress timelines from lab to market.

The Italian Society for the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (SIpEIA) is a scientific society composed of experts and professors from several Italian Universities, who maintain the highest standards of research excellence in AI ethics. SIpEIA combines cutting-edge research with practical application, focusing in particular on ethical AI governance frameworks, corporate training, and ethical consultancy services. Our interdisciplinary approach integrates computer science, ethics, and legal expertise to develop solutions for responsible AI deployment for companies. We specialize in translating complex regulatory frameworks into actionable AI development protocols, ensuring technology advancement while preserving ethical integrity.

AI-Driven Vehicle Sharing with Smart Contracts and Built-In Insurance
Volvero is a next-generation vehicle-sharing platform for cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles. Owners set time, distance, price and terms; drivers pick what fits their needs. Our patented stack uses AI and web3 to create digital twins of vehicles and drivers for real-time scoring, safety and accountability. Smart contracts replace paperwork and a built-in insurance model covers every ride transparently.
Proposed project
We seek Chinese insurance partners to co-develop on-demand, usage-based coverage for shared mobility across motorcycles, EVs, and light commercial fleets. The collaboration will align underwriting with driver/vehicle digital-twin scores, enable dynamic pricing, and integrate instant policy binding, claims automation, and fraud-risk controls. We propose regulatory sandbox pilots with local carriers to validate loss ratios and user experience, supported by privacy-by-design data governance. In parallel, we are open to strategic equity partners to co-fund and launch a Volvero pilot in Asia.
